Threads for e-cigarettes and vaporizers

Threads for e-cigarettes and vaporizers

Reading time: 5 minutes

Nowadays, you really see e-cigarettes at every corner. For many smokers, they offer an easy way to give up the pleasure of "real" cigarettes. Others simply enjoy the taste. They are praised primarily as an alternative because they don't burn tobacco but vaporize a liquid. Only this vapor is inhaled.

E-cigarettes manage to combine a lot of technology in a tiny space. The casing contains not only the battery and microprocessor but also mechanical parts like seals and still fits into any pocket, is easy to use, and does all this without falling apart. Sounds almost like threads are involved, right? Let's take a closer look. First, we'll discuss the general structure of an e-cigarette, then delve into threads for e-cigarettes. Of course, there will be plenty of tips on how to apply your new knowledge in practice afterwards.

The thread for e-cigarettes holds everything together

When it comes to individual parts that need to be securely held together, a thread is usually not far away. The same goes for threads for e-cigarettes, without which these devices wouldn't work. This becomes clear once you delve into the structure of an e-cigarette.

Structure of an e-cigarette

An e-cigarette primarily consists of three parts:

  • Battery
  • Vaporizer
  • Mouthpiece

The battery takes up the most space – the exact size depends on its power. It can be connected to the power source and can be recharged repeatedly.

The vaporizer is the heart of the e-cigarette. It also houses the tank for the liquid – known as the e-liquid – that's vaporized. When turned on, the e-liquid is heated by a coil, turning it into vapor.

Through the mouthpiece, the user then inhales this vapor. Mouthpieces come in all possible lengths, materials, and shapes. Choosing the right mouthpiece significantly affects the vaping experience and is a highly personal choice for many users!

Where the threads for e-cigarettes are located

By now, you probably have an idea of where the thread is on the e-cigarette. Exactly: between the battery and the vaporizer. Here, it ensures that these two parts can be easily replaced yet hold together firmly. The battery's power level affects the vaping experience, so many users want to switch between various batteries. Thanks to the e-cigarette thread, that's no problem. The thread for e-cigarettes also allows you to connect a second, full battery to the vaporizer while charging or to replace a defective battery.

By the way, the connection between the vaporizer and the mouthpiece is not a thread for e-cigarettes, but a simple plug connection. This is because the mouthpieces are lighter, and the plug connection provides enough stability. Additionally, mouthpieces are often changed and replaced regularly, making them more of a consumable item.

Available threads for e-cigarettes

So, if it's all about interchangeability, the threads for e-cigarettes must be standardized, right? Almost. A certain standard has indeed emerged. This e-cigarette thread is called the 510 thread and is now used by many renowned manufacturers. It's a metric fine thread MF 7 x 0.5. This ensures a high interchangeability across different manufacturers. The internal thread is on the battery holder, and the external thread is on the vaporizer. The vaporizer is screwed into the battery holder. The mouthpieces typically have the same diameter, just without the e-cigarette thread.

However, not every thread for e-cigarettes is a 510 thread. An older version of the e-cigarette thread is known as the eGo-thread. Not only is it a different thread standard, but the external and internal threads are also reversed compared to the 510 thread. Therefore, compatibility is definitively excluded.

Speaking of compatibility: Just because a vaporizer and a battery holder have the same thread for e-cigarettes doesn't mean that the parts really fit together. Mechanically, they can be screwed together, but not every random combination of products from different manufacturers works.

Why you should inform yourself about threads for e-cigarettes before buying

If you enjoy vaping or are considering trying it, it's worth understanding the thread for e-cigarettes. The 510 thread is currently the standard thread in the e-cigarette sector. So, if you choose a device with a 510 thread, you'll have the broadest range of usable components.

However, you might come across an older device with an eGo thread. In this case, don't despair; fortunately, there are adapters to solve the problem. You can easily find these at any specialty store, allowing you to connect 510 threads and eGo threads.

Threading tools for threads for e-cigarettes

The average consumer probably won't need to deal with thread cutting tools for the 510 thread. However, there are DIY enthusiasts and individuals who prefer to repair defective devices rather than replace them. In these cases, hand screw taps are used to proceed with the necessary caution. If you're interested, simply search for hand taps or short machine taps labeled MF 7 x 0.5 or threading tools for vapers and e-cigarettes.

You'll definitely find what you're looking for in our online shop from the tap manufacturer BAER! We offer a hand tap set for the 510 thread, allowing you to easily re-cut or repair your e-cigarette thread. If you have any questions, please contact us!
