HSSE-TiAlN: The Foundation for Outstanding Results

To create a tap that meets almost all requirements, selecting the right material is essential. The secret of our taps consists of two components: HSSE as the base material with a TiAlN coating.

HSSE is a high-performance high-speed steel alloyed with cobalt. The 5% cobalt content ensures greater hardness and optimized hot hardness resistance, making even difficult-to-machine materials manageable. Through special hardening processes and repeated tempering, we achieve uniform hardness distribution—an unmistakable feature of a high-quality tap.

The titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) coating is then added to HSSE. This further enhances hot hardness resistance, allowing for higher cutting speeds and machining of hard materials. It also extends the tool’s service life and can be refreshed up to five times.

Perfect Cutting Geometry for All Applications

The material is the foundation of UNiTap HSSE taps, but an advanced cutting geometry is needed to create a truly perfect tool. A precise grind and burr-free cutting edges ensure that you produce flawless threads with excellent surface quality. M 4, M 12, or M 30: Individual Taps in Various Sizes

You will find BAER UNiTap taps in shapes B and C. Shape B with straight flutes and chamfer is suitable for through holes, while Shape C with spiral flutes is used for blind holes. The strongly right-hand twisted flutes ensure that chips are transported out of the blind hole against the cutting direction, preventing jamming or other chip-related issues.

Additionally, you can choose from two shaft types. The reduced shank according to DIN 376 has a smaller diameter than the thread, making it suitable for deep threads and long thread lengths. In contrast, the diameter of a reinforced shank according to DIN 371 is larger than the thread. While this provides more stability, it also limits the thread length, as the tool cannot enter the core hole.
