With thread armoring for a strong thread that can withstand any load
You have probably heard that damaged threads can be repaired with the right tools to avoid rejects. But did you also know that you can reinforce threads right from the start? This not only prevents damage before it even occurs, but also has a number of other benefits.
With thread reinforcement, you can specifically improve certain parameters of your screw connection, giving you completely new flexibility when selecting materials. The installation of thread inserts is simple and can be done in no time at all. This improves the service life of your threads and saves you time and money.

Would you like to know how thread reinforcement works and for which applications it is particularly worthwhile? We clarify all open questions. You can find all the products you need for thread repair and reinforcement of all thread types in our online store.
How does threaded armoring work?
You need the right thread inserts for the armoring of a thread. Depending on the application, these can be wire thread inserts or self-tapping threaded bushes. Which variant you choose depends on the material and other operating conditions such as the wall thickness of the component.

To reinforce a new thread with a thread insert, first proceed in the same way as you would with thread cutting. Drill a core hole with the appropriate diameter. If you are using wire thread inserts, next cut the insert thread into the material using a special tap. Threaded bushes cut their own holding thread.
The actual installation process then begins. You will need installation tools for this. For optimum results, only use tools that are compatible with the system you are using. Installation tools are available for manual or mechanical use.

The thread insert is placed on the installation tool and screwed into the thread. When you then unscrew the tool again, the insert remains in the thread. With many wire thread inserts, you now need to break the tang and remove it from the thread. And the thread armoring is complete.
That's why it pays to reinforce a thread
Whether in industry or in your garage – thread reinforcement has many advantages. The targeted use of threaded bushes not only gives you stronger screw connections, which positively affect the stability and service life of your components, but also saves you money.
Thread armoring for higher pull-out strength
The armoring of a thread is particularly popular in lightweight constructions. In materials with low shear strength, such as aluminum or magnesium alloys, a pull-out strength can be achieved that would not be possible without the use of thread inserts. You can therefore take full advantage of these materials without having to accept the disadvantages.
Threaded armor saves space and weight
In concrete terms, this means that with thread inserts, you can reduce the length and diameter of screw connections and generally require fewer connection points. This allows you to save weight and space without compromising on the strength of the screw connection and therefore also on safety. Ultimately, this also reduces the overall costs of a project. Thread reinforcement therefore helps you to save money.
Thread armoring reduces wear
However, thread armoring is also worthwhile in other materials due to the high corrosion resistance of the thread inserts. In this way, you reduce wear and not only protect your budget, but also contribute to greater sustainability. With thread armoring, you prepare threads optimally for all upcoming tasks, protect them from adverse environmental conditions, and reduce the risk of having to carry out thread repairs in the future.
Thread reinforcement inserts can also be used for thread repair
Thread inserts for thread reinforcement are always a worthwhile addition to the toolbox, whether you are a DIY enthusiast or a professional. They are also suitable for repairing threads. The dimensions of the original thread are retained, the load-bearing capacity and corrosion resistance are even increased, and you can continue to use a component that might otherwise have been scrap.
All the advantages of threaded armoring at a glance:
- Increases the pull-out strength
- Minimizes weight and space requirements
- Reduces wear and tear
- Inserts are also suitable for thread repair
Thread repair and armoring: BaerCoil and BaerFix thread inserts
In our range at BAER, we have two different systems for thread armoring and repair available for you. All products can be purchased individually or in a practical thread repair kit.

BaerCoil is our range of wire thread inserts in various designs:
- “Free-running” for normal applications and various special materials
- Including screw lock as “screw grip” type
- Without tang as the “NoTang” variant

Our BaerCoil system also includes the necessary tools such as core hole twist drills, taps, and assembly tools.
The BaerFix thread inserts are self-tapping threaded bushes with cutting slots, cutting holes, or in a version for spark plug threads M10 to M14. You can also find all assembly tools for this system individually or as a set in our store.

Do you have a very specific need for thread repair and reinforcement inserts? We also have a solution for you. We are happy to manufacture thread inserts precisely tailored to your individual requirements.
