Wide selection of screw taps for hand
and machine applications – reliable, long-lasting
and available immediately.
BAER Tap Drills: Quality direct from the manufacturer
The right tool determines cutting quality, tool life and process reliability. As a manufacturer of tap drills, we produce tools to all standard specifications: from metric tap drills (M) and fine threads (MF) to American (UNC, UNF) and British standards (BSW, BSF). We also supply special sizes and custom-made products on request.
Choose from a wide range for manual and machine threading applications – and find exactly the right tap for your material, thread type and application.
Metric tap sets
Metric taps are the standard for most technical applications. They are suitable for precise internal threads in accordance with ISO standards and are used wherever reliable and precise screw connections are required – from mechanical engineering and the trades to maintenance.
BAER stocks metric taps from M1 to M52, available as ‘ hand screw tap’ sets, ‘ machine screw tap’ and ‘ short machine tap’ – in tolerance classes 6H and 6G, as well as for left-hand and right-hand threads.
Taps by type – choosing the right type
Different taps are used depending on the application and type of hole. BAER offers all standard types in industrial quality.
Taps for all standards
BAER offers taps for all internationally recognised thread standards – from standard metric threads to special threads for the aerospace industry.
Metric Standards
- M – metric coarse thread
- MF – metric fine thread
- G (BSP) – pipe thread
- Tr – trapezoidal thread

Materials and coatings
The right material and the appropriate coating have a significant impact on cutting quality, tool life and process reliability.
HSS – High Speed Steel
HSS screw taps are the proven standard for many applications. They are suitable for unalloyed and low-alloy steels, aluminium and plastics, and offer a good balance of tool life, versatility and price. Ideal for hand and basic machine applications.
HSSE – Cobalt-Alloyed High Speed Steel
HSSE screw taps contain a cobalt content (5–8 %) and are therefore more heat-resistant and wear-resistant. They are preferably used for stainless steel, tough steels and higher cutting loads, and offer a significantly longer tool life with demanding materials.
TiN / TiAlN – Coating for Extended Tool Life
Coated screw taps reduce friction and wear and considerably extend tool life. TiN (titanium nitride) is suitable for many standard applications. TiAlN (titanium aluminium nitride) offers particular advantages at high temperatures and in series production thanks to its high-temperature resistance.
That’s why it’s worth buying tap drills from BAER
BAER Tools has been a screw tap manufacturer for over 40 years – you buy direct, with no middlemen.
From metric coarse thread and G pipe thread through to UNC, UNF or NPT: our range covers virtually every threading application.
All BAER screw taps are manufactured to the highest dimensional accuracy and meet common DIN and ISO tolerances – quality trusted by industry since 1981.
Whether hand screw tap set, machine screw tap or short machine tap – we stock the right version for every application.
Most screw taps are immediately available and dispatched quickly; express delivery is available on request.
For demanding or unusual applications, BAER also produces individual screw taps as custom models to your specifications – backed by four decades of tooling expertise.
Choosing the right tap – in three steps
Choosing the right tap depends on three key factors :
Step 1: Determine the Material
Which material are you working with? For steel, stainless steel, aluminium, cast iron and plastics, screw taps with adapted cutting geometry and coating are required. Rule of thumb: the tougher the material, the more important the cobalt content (HSSE) and coating (TiAlN) become.
Step 2: Define the Thread Standard and Size
Metric screw taps from M1 to M52 cover most applications. Do you need fine thread (MF), American standards (UNC, UNF) or special threads? BAER supplies all international standards from a single source.
Step 3: Clarify the Type of Application
Hand operation or machine processing? Through hole or blind hole? For blind holes, screw taps with a right-hand spiral (form C) are recommended for reliable chip evacuation. For CNC machining, machine screw taps with a defined chamfer are the right choice.
