Bolt
A bolt is a rod-shaped fastener, often with an external thread, which together with an internal thread (e.g. nut or threaded hole in a part) serves to join components.
Characteristics:
- The outer diameter and thread pitch must match the internal thread.
- Material and strength of the bolt are decisive for load capacity.
Practical example:
An M8 × 1.25 bolt is inserted into a set screw M8 to join two plates – the bolt must safely absorb tensile and shear loads.
