Fine Thread
Fine threads are threads with a smaller pitch for the same diameter – i.e. the thread turns are closer together than in coarse threads.
Advantages:
- Higher strength under dynamic loading/vibration, as there is more material between thread turns.
- Fine threads allow finer adjustments.
Disadvantages:
- More complex to manufacture.
- More sensitive to contamination and overload.
Practical example:
In connecting parts where precise adjustment over small increments is required – e.g. in precision engineering or instrument making – fine threads are used instead of coarse threads.
