Internal Thread
An internal thread is a thread that is cut or formed into a workpiece – e.g. in holes (nut, housing, component) – and into which an external thread can be screwed.
Characteristics:
- Must be produced to the correct diameter, pitch and tolerance.
- Pre-drilling and cutting method are important for a clean start and correct dimensional accuracy.
Practical example:
A housing receives an M6 internal thread so that an M6 screw can be screwed in to secure a cover or part.
