Vernier Caliper
A vernier caliper is a precise hand measuring instrument for determining external, internal and depth dimensions. It is used primarily in mechanical engineering, metalworking and the trades.
Typical components are two measuring jaws (for external and internal dimensions), a depth gauge and a scale with vernier or digital display. Analogue models usually measure to 0.1 mm, digital variants to 0.01 mm.
Vernier calipers are ideal for checking workpiece dimensions, bore diameters or thread depths. For reliable results, the instrument should be cleaned and checked regularly.
