Machine taps from BAER - efficient thread production
When you need a thread, this is typically how you proceed: As a rule, a through hole or blind hole is core drill bit a through hole or blind hole is usually drilled first, into which the thread is then tapped with the help of a tap. However, if you work with a precise machine tap, you can do both operations with the same tool. This saves you the time needed to change tools.
In addition, some machine taps have the practical spiral point (spiral entry), which ensures that the chip created by the cutting of the thread is broken and pushed downwards out of the through hole. For a blind hole, a machine tap with a spiral flute serves the same purpose by pushing the chips upwards out of the hole against the cutting direction.
Large selection with different forms - suitable for every material
If you work with different materials, you also need different machine taps to achieve the best possible result in each material.
For this purpose, our reliable and high-quality machine taps are available in different forms:
- Form A, straight fluted and with a long chamfer for through hole
- Form B with spiral point for through hole
- Form C with 35° right spiral flutes for blind hole
- Form C, straight fluted and suitable for through hole and blind hole
- Form E with 40° right spiral flutes and short chamfer for blind hole
- Combined machine tap
- Machine nut tap
For each form, you also have the choice between different variants
Form B is available for example for: universal use (UNiTAP), normal applications, left-hand thread, high-alloy steels, aluminium, stainless steels, special alloys and other applications.
Form C is available, for example, for: normal applications in structural steel or free-cutting steel, TiN-coated, for cast materials, for titanium and titanium alloys, for brass or solid carbide
Especially popular is our combined machine tap
With this all-round tool, you can create a core hole and through hole thread in one step. This high-quality combined machine tap consists of a twist drill part and a threaded part together and can be used for all materials of medium strength. However, the thread depth is limited to 2 x D (through thread).

Machine taps, hand taps, short machine taps
Perhaps you do not only use machine taps, but also hand taps or short machine taps. In that case, we can of course also help you with correspondingly high-quality tools. You have not used all of them so far? Then we will be happy to explain the differences to you:
As the name suggests, the machine tap is used for machine applications and is a focal tool in industrial manufacturing.
The short machine tap has been popular since the 1970s as an inexpensive internal tap for short through holes. It was also able to re-tap the thread and therefore replaced the then actually typical triple combination of taper tap (No. 1), intermediate Tap (No. 2) and finishing tap (No. 3) for interested customers. Our short machine taps have a full thread profile and can therefore be operated manually as well as by machine!
Hand taps are the traditional tools used for cutting a thread. For regular threads, three-piece hand tap sets with taper, intermediate and finishing tap (No. 3) are used. For fine threads, two-piece hand tap sets are used. Compared to the machine tap in a long version, the hand taps are available in a short version. At BAER you will find a large selection suitable for different materials as well as left-hand thread or special pitches.
