Vg – valve thread
The valve thread for vehicle tires helps to ensure that the air stays where it belongs – namely in the tire. This gives the thread one of the more demanding tasks within the broad thread family, and at the same time a very specialized one. To ensure it is always up to this task, it should be handled and maintained with care – using BAER threading tools for valve threads.
Everything you need to know about the valve thread
Valves regulate tire pressure in vehicle tires. Since they are often exposed to mechanical impact and adverse environmental conditions, it is important to protect them. Only then can it be ensured that valves always function smoothly and that tire pressure does not change unnoticed. Valve threads are essential for protecting valves. They keep the valve cap in place and thus prevent road dirt, penetrating moisture or swirling dust from impairing the valve’s performance. By the way, valve threads are not only found on motorized vehicles. Valves on bicycle tires also need one in order to function smoothly.
The valve thread according to DIN 7756, often simply referred to as the Vg thread, has some special features you should be aware of. In terms of profile, the valve thread is a V-thread. It has a flank angle of 60°. The thread designation consists of the prefix Vg and the nominal size in mm. The thread table for the valve thread includes only seven thread sizes between 5 mm and 12 mm. The pitch is specified in threads per inch. In addition, the table includes outside diameters and tap drill diameters for bolt and nut. A maximum value and a minimum value are always specified.
