And if you ever don't find what you are looking for straight away, we will be happy to advise you on the right choice. You can always rely on our expertise . Particularly important in any tool assortment is the twist drill bit, which we can offer you in suitable designs for different materials.
Twist drill bit - appearance and area of applications
The twist drill bit was invented as early as 1863 and owes its name to the twisted spirals ("helixes"), which ensure rapid removal of the metal chips produced and at the same time serve to supply lubricant. By the way, we also stock the right lubricants for your drilling work!
Appearance
In addition to a conical head, the twist drill bit has various cutting edges - usually main, secondary and transverse. The tip of the head has either a point angle of 118° or 135° for HSS drill bits (high-speed steel) or 142° for carbide drill bits.
The angle is important to make the drill bit insensitive to lateral or impact forces. Depending on the material, a higher or lower angle helps to reduce or increase the contact pressure. A small angle also helps to centre the drill bit and reduce the risk of slipping on smooth or curved surfaces .
Material
The twist drills bit are made of particularly resistant and robust material to guarantee a long service life time. Our drill bits are made of the following materials:
- HSS (high-speed steel)
- HSSG (high-speed steel, ground version)
- HSSE (high-speed steel with a cobalt content (Co) of 5%)
Application
As a rule, the twist drill bit is used for various metals (and is therefore also called a metal drill bit), but there are also drill bits adapted for wood, stone or plastics. We explain our range in detail in the next section.
