Machine taps - fast and precise tapping
#Efficiency
The precision of BAER right-hand cutting machine taps and the relief-ground thread ensure that there is less friction and temperature at thread cutting. To prevent the thread profile from completely rubbing against the workpiece, the thread is already cut over the entire thread profile at the gate clearance angle. This means that the tap has to apply less force and chip jamming can be avoided. The result: tool life is increased and the tap needs to be replaced less frequently.
Our machine taps are powerful and reliable taps for efficient machining in one step with the machine. Machine taps are used especially in industrial production. They can be used in CNC machines, thread cutting machines, cordless drills and pneumatic tapping arms, among others. As they are characterised by high efficiency and low production costs, they are often used in series production. The thread is cut by machine in one operation. Thus, although the BAER machine tap can basically be compared with single-cut taps, it is designed for use with the machine.
The machine taps for blind holes have a short lead-in and twisted flute shape that the chip is discharged to the rear of the hole. The through hole taps screw tap have a long lead-in, straight flutes and a spiral point (spiral entry), which ensure that the chip is transported forward out of the hole.
Every material shows individual chip behaviour. Therefore, screw tap must have the correct rake angles and - for even better results - a specially treated surface. This is the only way to achieve a good chip transport and to produce a thread that is true to gauge.
The high quality of the cobalt-alloyed HSSE steel we use ensures that our tools are extremely durable and robust. Due to special hardening processes and repeated tempering the hardness structure is very homogeneous, which forms the ideal basis for a genuine BAER screw tap. This increases the toughness and stability of the screw tap, allowing them to remain in use for longer.
The oxidised surface (vaporisation) reduces the sliding resistance and direct friction between the tap and the workpiece, thus ensuring a constant lubricating film. This prevents built-up edges and cold welding, i.e. adhesion of chip particles. The oxidised surface is only used for cutting ferrous materials.
The advantages at a glance:
- For through holes and blind holes
- Less friction and temperature due to clearance angle in thread
- suitable for stainless steel
- Efficient machining in one step
- For use in CNC machines, thread cutting machines, tapping arms etc.

HSSE-NT dies - for perfect external threads
#runs round
These high-performance dies are made of cobalt alloyed high speed steel HSSE. The dies provide improved chip removal with their spiral point (spiral entry) and are lapped to smooth the cutting edges and reduce thread friction. The surface hardness is additionally increased by nitriding (1100-1200 HV). The geometry of this cutting tool is specially designed for machining stainless steels. The holes between the cutting edges take up the chips, roll them and carry them away. The cutting iron has outer and inner teeth. The flattened outer teeth make it easier to cut, reduce wear and thus increase the tool life time. Each tooth takes a chip of the same width with it when cutting. The inner teeth have no cutting function: in the cut part of the thread they serve as straight guides. The symmetrical design allows cutting in both axial directions.
