BAER HSSE-VAP TriTap Thread Taps
Our TriTap thread taps are the perfect solution for everyone who values flexibility. Thanks to the special shank design, thread cutting is also possible with hand-held machines – all in proven BAER quality. Thread tapping works best with a stationary drill press, a thread cutting machine, or a CNC machine. However, in practice, using such machines is often not feasible or only with great effort. The obvious solution is to clamp the tap into a hand-held drill with a quick-release chuck. The problem: The chuck jaws cannot grip the round shank securely and do not accommodate a square drive. This often leads to the tool slipping. We address this issue with the innovative design of our new TriTap thread taps. The special feature lies in the shank. In addition to the usual square drive, we’ve integrated a three-flat shank. These three flat surfaces are ideal for being gripped firmly by the three chuck jaws of a standard hand drill. In addition to its innovative design, the TriTap thread tap stands out with exceptional quality and long service life. The robust HSSE steel with cobalt alloy handles even demanding materials such as stainless steel. The vaporized finish reduces friction, protects against corrosion, and ensures that cutting oil adheres better to the tool surface. As a bonus, the oxidized finish gives the tap an especially refined look. This makes our TriTap thread taps true universal tools, suitable for a wide range of applications. Thread cutting with hand-held machines comes with certain challenges. To achieve clean results and avoid tool breakage, keep the following points in mind:
- Hold the tool precisely perpendicular to the borehole. Tools such as angle guides can be a valuable aid.
- Avoid high speeds, as you have less precise control over the feed when working by hand.
- For blind hole threads, be especially careful not to bottom out the tap.
TriTap thread taps are ideal for tradespeople, DIYers, and installers who want to stay flexible and mobile on the job without compromising on quality.

Cutting speed vc [m/min] = (Outer diameter * π * speed) / 1000
Rotation speed n [1/min] = (Cutting speed in m/min * 1000) / (Outer diameter * π)
Feedrate programming [mm/min] = speed * pitch
Please note that the above cutting speeds are indicative and must be adjusted depending on lubrication and actuation.
