Countersink for deburring and countersinking
Ccountersinks are clamped in the drilling machine and are used to deepen the planned holes on the surface of the material in a conical shape. This is particularly necessary for furniture so that the screws can be completely screwed into the wood. In this way, no points or bumps can protrude on which users could later injure themselves, and it also looks more visually appealing.
In addition, there is a risk that without using the countersink, the wood would crack if you try to force the screw completely in. With the high-quality taper countersinks from BAER, you have the ideal means of drilling millimetre-precise recesses with little effort in order to create sufficient space for the screw head. And that in different materials!
Countersinks for metal and wood - types and application
Countersinks are used in industry and the trades, but also in DIY for different applications and different materials. The countersinks themselves are made of metal, but can also be used for wood, stainless steel or sheet metal, for example.
When choosing the right countersink, you should consider both the material and the screws to be used. We will be happy to help you and advise you individually. We have put together some tips for you below.
The following types of countersinks are commonly used:
- Countersink (with a conical tip and at least three cutting edges). These can be used for shallow countersinking (from 5 cutting edges) or deep countersinking (with 3 cutting edges). They are usually made of HSS material and the cutting edges typically have an angle of 90° or 120°. Cutting edges with 60° are used for deburring.
- Cross hole countersink (with a conical cutting head and oblique cross hole). It is ideal for long-chipping materials or thin sheets.
Profile countersinking
There are different drilling methods for countersinking depending on the screw that will later fit into the hole:
- The profile countersinking drilling process is a precise technique for producing holes in workpieces. It is a process that is used in many areas of industrial manufacturing, especially in the automotive and aerospace industries and in the manufacture of turbines and pumps.
- The process is based on the use of a vertical drill with a circular profile that is fed through a jig into the workpiece. The drill has a diameter that is slightly smaller than the hole to be produced. When the drill enters the workpiece, it cuts a circular section out of the material, with the profile of the drill determining the shape of the hole.
- The advantages of the profile countersinking method are primarily its high precision and the ability to create complex shapes and contours. It is also a fast and efficient method for producing holes in thin materials or in materials that are difficult to machine.
Which angle for which application?
When choosing a countersink, pay attention to what you want to use it for later. There are different standardised angles that are suitable for different applications. In our online shop, you can get high-quality countersinks with a point angle of 90 degrees.
Our high quality countersink assortment
At BAER Tools there is no standing still - we are constantly busy developing new innovative tools to make your work easier. Of course, we always pay attention to the highest quality.
Currently we can offer you the following modern countersinks for various applications:
- HSSG for normal applications
- HSSG cross hole countersink - for countersinking without chip jams
- HSSG with ¼" bit holder for cordless screwdrivers
- HSSE-VAP for stainless steels
HSSE or HSSG countersink?
Depending on the material to be machined, a countersink made of HSS or HSSE is suitable. HSS means high-speed steel, which is highly alloyed and particularly wear-resistant. There are different types of HSS countersinks, including HSSG and HSSE. These differ in their properties and performance.
HSSG countersinks are made from high speed steel and have high hardness and toughness. HSSG is easy to grind, so our BAER countersinks have perfect cutting edges and a high surface quality. They are suitable for all materials that can be machined well.
HSSE countersinks are also made of high-speed steel, but this has an "extra alloy component". BAER countersinks made of HSSE contain cobalt in the alloy, which increases the hardness and temperature resistance. This makes them and highly alloyed and suitable for stainless steels and high-alloy steels.
The main difference between these different types of HSS countersinks is their performance and suitability for different materials. HSSG countersinks are recommended for use in materials that are easy to machine. HSSE countersinks are suitable for use in very hard and difficult-to-machine materials and offer higher performance than HSSG.
We offer you the highest quality for professional results with the HSSG and HSSE countersinks. In the product descriptions you will find further explanations for the use of the offered countersinks, furthermore we are always available for a personal and individual consultation.
