Metric thread - a brief overview
In order to choose the right tool, you should be reasonably familiar with the basics of M threads. We have summarised the most important facts and figures for metric threads here.
History and distribution of the ISO metric thread
The standard for the metric thread was established as early as 1947 - soon after the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) was founded. Shortly afterwards, the metric thread began its worldwide triumphal march, which continues to this day. In Europe in particular, the M thread is the undisputed standard for screws, nuts and other standardised parts.
Features of the metric standard thread
The metric thread is defined according to DIN 13-1. It specifies Dimensions from 1 to 68 mm outside diameter. The thread angle is 60°. The thread designation is made up of the abbreviation M and a numerical value that describes the nominal diameter.
Screw taps for metric threads in the BAER range
Screw taps for metric threads are the most popular tools in our online shop. Here at a screw tap manufacturer you will find everything you need to create internal threads.
Hand taps for metric threads
We offer hand taps in sets, each containing one taper tap (No. 1), one intermediate tap (No. 2) and one finishing tap (No. 3). However, you can also purchase each of the three tools for metric threads individually. In addition to hand taps for normal applications, our range also covers numerous special cases such as left-hand thread, special pitches or tools made of special materials for stainless steel or other cutting cases with high stresses.
M thread machine taps
Would you like to produce a metric thread with your stationary drilling machine? We have just the right tool for you. Our extensive range of machine taps includes screw taps with all types of chamfers and flutes. In addition to screw taps for normal applications, we also stock all special designs. Whether screw tap for special materials such as stainless steel or aluminium or those with special geometries, dimensions or coatings - when it comes to cutting a metric thread, nothing is left to be desired.
Short Machine taps or hand taps for metric ISO threads
Short machine taps can be used both by hand and in the machine. In our online shop, you will find the flexible tools in Form D and Form B and in many metric thread sizes.
Cutting metric threads with bit taps
You can cut metric threads particularly flexibly with our bit taps for hand drilling machines and cordless screwdrivers. The combination bit tap even create their own core hole before cutting a metric thread in the same step.
Thread cutting die for metric threads from BAER
Not only internal threads, but also external threads need to be cut. The easiest way to do this is with the BAER thread cutting dies in many different versions.
Round cutting dies for metric threads
With a round cutting die you can create a metric thread on the outside of bolts, screws and threaded rods in no time at all. Every special case is also covered by the holding tools in our range. Threads as left-hand thread, in brass or with special tolerances? All this and much more is possible with the thread cutting dies from BAER.
M thread hexagonal die nuts
Our hexagonal cutting die for metric threads are particularly suitable for recutting threads or for hard-to-reach places. Thanks to their special shape, they can be used without die holder - a spanner is all you need to cut your thread.
Forming taps for metric threads
Shaping is more your thing? We are also equipped for this. Create your metric thread with a forming tap from the BAER range. Whether standard tolerance or with oversize for threaded connections with wide fitting or distortion due to heat treatment, your thread is guaranteed to be successful with our thread formers.
Metric thread gauge in the BAER online shop
Are you sure your thread meets the standard? You can check this quickly, safely and reliably with a "metric thread gauge" from the BAER range.
Thread plug gauges for metric ISO threads
You can use thread plug gauges to check your thread for the correct shape of the internal thread. To do this, you need a thread Go thread gauge plug and a NO-GO thread plug gauge- or both gauges combined on one handle to form a thread limit plug gauge.
Ring gauges M thread
Use ring gauges to check your metric thread for gauge accuracy of the external thread. GO ring gauges and NO-GO ring gauges for your thread can be easily distinguished by the red marking.
Sets and assortments for metric threads
Do you like things to be particularly uncomplicated? Then take a closer look at our threading tool sets.
