Metric combination bit taps for cordless screwdrivers
Do you sometimes dream of completing many small work steps in one go and thus saving time? The drill with tap makes this dream a reality. Thanks to its unique geometry, the combined screw tap combines a tap with a drill and also fulfills the function of a countersink. This makes thread cutting almost like magic: where there was solid metal a moment ago, a perfectly cut thread appears after using the drill with tap - no pre-drilling necessary. And the best thing? The hexagonal shank allows the use of a hand drill or cordless screwdriver. Tapping really couldn't be easier. Whether you are a DIY enthusiast looking for inexpensive and practical solutions or a professional who wants to work quickly and flexibly, you shouldn't miss out on the combination thread taps in our BAER online shop. Our combination bit taps are drills with a tap and hexagonal shank that can be used with cordless drills and hand drills
How the tap with drilling functions works
What is the combination tap actually: a drill with a tap or a tap with a drill? That depends entirely on your perspective. What is clear is that the drill-tap-combination is the perfect replacement for both tools. To make this work, the combination screw tap combines the features of a drill with tap geometry. You can recognise this at first glance. The tip is reminiscent of a twist drill bit. Two cutting edges meet there at a shallow angle and then wind along the spiral grooves over the entire length of the tool. At the very top, the drill is still smooth, then the thread teeth gradually emerge, with which the drill with tap cuts the thread into the material. And finally, you can see a conical bulge on the combi screw tap. This is the countersink that countersinks and deburrs the edge of the core hole. This creates a perfect, clean-cut thread in a single pass. And all without having to change tools or start again!
The drill tap combination is easy to use
No special prior knowledge is required to create a perfect thread in a single pass using a drill with a tap. There is no need to pre-drill a core hole separately - so you can't make any mistakes with the core hole diameter. To prevent the tap drill from slipping, you should centre punch the workpiece. This will make the cut easier. Then use sufficient cutting paste and position the combination of drill and screw tap exactly vertically. Using light pressure, drill the drill bit with tap into the material and back out again using anti-clockwise rotation. Your perfectly cut thread is finished.
The drill tap combination replaces these work steps
- Core hole drilling: The tip on the combined tap corresponds to a twist drill bit and drills effortlessly into the material.
- Thread cutting: The threads on the drill with tap cut the material.
- Countersinking: finally, the conical moulding on the drill with tap ensures a clean edge and removes burrs.
All this in just one operation - only the combination drill tap can really do this.
Particularly flexible: Drill bit with tap and hexagonal shank
The drill bit screw tap combination is particularly versatile in use thanks to the hexagonal shank. This means that the drill bit with tap can be easily inserted into any hexagonal tool holder - including your standard cordless screwdriver at home. The days when you needed a whole set of workshop equipment to thread cutting are over. The bit drill with tap really makes it possible for anyone to get started with thread cutting. However, you should take special care when using the combination tap in hand-held tools. To ensure that you enjoy your drill with tap for as long as possible and are satisfied with the results of your work, it is particularly important to keep the device level at all times so that the drill-tap combination cannot jam.
What are the limitations of using a drill tap combination?
A drill with a tap is practical, but not suitable for some special applications. However, many normal DIY applications or professional assembly work can be carried out without any problems using the drill tap combination. To find out whether the drill with screw tap is the right choice for your project, you should consider the following restrictions:
- Only through hole threads can be produced with a drill with a tap.
- The combination tap with hexagonal shank can only produce threads up to a depth of 1 x D; this corresponds to nominal diameter.
- To use a drill with a tap and hexagonal shank, you need a hand drill or a cordless screwdriver with a power of at least 7.5 volts and a freely adjustable torque.
- The tap with drill bit works best in steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics up to 600 N/mm² tensile strength.
If you observe these points, nothing stands in the way of the successful use of your drill with tap
