Thread restorers
Threads are complex structures that can be impaired in their function by even small changes. When this happens, the thread flanks no longer engage properly and screws jam or can no longer be screwed in. You have probably also experienced how threads wear over time, become dirty or stiff due to rust or damage and eventually can no longer be used at all. In such cases, solutions can seem hard to find.
Fortunately, there is a simple solution to this problem. With a thread restorer from BAER Tools, thread re-cutting becomes remarkably easy, and the flexible tool automatically adapts to the correct size. In our online shop, you will find practical thread restorers as well as many other products and accessories for thread repair.
Everything you need to know about thread restoration
A thread restorer is a specialized tool designed specifically to make thread re-cutting simple and convenient. Thread restorers are available in two versions: for external threads and for internal threads. The hardened cutting blades of the thread restorer automatically adapt to the thread profile and diameter during use, so you do not need to measure the thread or know the pitch. The thread restorer re-cuts the flanks of the existing thread and reconstructs it without changing its dimensions. This means you do not have to worry about the component no longer fitting correctly afterwards.
Using a thread restorer is very straightforward and easy even for beginners. Even if you have no prior experience with thread re-cutting, the thread restorer can be used safely. This helps you avoid scrap and allows you to restore a wide variety of thread sizes without owning a single conventional tap or die.
Thread restorers for every diameter – Our range
Thread restorers are not limited to a single thread size and can be used very flexibly. Nevertheless, we have divided the thread restorers in the BAER online shop into different size ranges to make handling easier. Each thread restorer covers a wide range of thread sizes as well as different thread standards. You only need to pay attention to the different flank angles. For example, metric ISO threads M require a thread restorer with a 60° flank angle, while Whitworth pipe threads G require a 55° flank angle. We also offer sets of thread restorers in several sizes in a practical plastic case. These sets are available either for external or internal threads only, or as complete sets containing both versions in many sizes.
Thread restorers for internal threads
The thread restorer for internal threads features a cutting blade that can be pressed from the inside against the thread of a nut or another internal thread in the workpiece by means of a sophisticated mechanism. To do this, the blade is first completely retracted into the housing by turning the knurled knob. Only then do you insert the thread restorer into the internal thread. You can now extend the blade again using the knurled knob until it is securely seated in one of the thread grooves. For soft materials, you should also use the yellow protective cap to prevent the pressure from causing damage to the thread itself. Unscrew the thread restorer completely from the bore and your internal thread will be perfectly restored.
Thread restorers for external threads
Thread restorers for external threads on screws and threaded rods are equipped with two floating blades that can be freely adjusted. Before use, these blades are moved to the highest position using the rotating handle. In the lower part of the thread restorer there is a recess into which you place the screw or bolt to be restored. You then operate the handle again and slowly lower the two blades onto the thread. The cutting blades are flexible and automatically adapt to the course of the thread flanks. It is best to position the thread restorer below the damaged or contaminated area in order to fully reconstruct every affected thread turn. Once the thread restorer is tightened, begin turning the entire tool around the bolt by hand. The thread restorer follows the course of the thread and can be completely unscrewed from it. The result is a perfectly restored thread that can be used again without any restrictions.
