Thread repair Sets BaerCoil® with wire thread inserts and assembly tools
Do you regularly have to deal with threads in your workshop? In that case, a thread repair kit is a sensible purchase - because a thread can break for many reasons. A screw can quickly break off or rust, be tightened too much or not be removed properly, thus damaging or deforming the thread. Over time, normal wear and tear can also occur, rendering the thread unusable. Whatever the cause of a defective thread, instead of replacing the component, you should first think about a thread repair. This can be done easily with BaerCoil® thread repair kits, even by laymen. And what's more: with our BaerCoil® wire thread inserts, you not only repair threads, you also strengthen them. In this way, you can preventively extend the life of your threads so that damage does not occur in the first place. Especially for materials with low shear strength such as aluminium, this pays off quickly. In this way, you not only conserve resources and do something for more sustainability, you also save money.
At BAER it is important to us that you can rely on your threads for a long time. That's why we want to do everything we can to make repairing and armouring your threads as easy as possible for you - no matter how much experience you have and how well equipped your workshop is. With a BaerCoil® thread repair kit, repairing your damaged threads is child's play. All the utensils you need - a perfect fit, from one source and in proven BAER quality.
Everything in the BaerCoil® thread repair kit
Buying everything separately, matching sizes and then forgetting a tool - that is tedious and stops you in your tracks. With a BaerCoil® thread repair kit you no longer have to worry about that. A thread repair kit is particularly helpful when you have neither repair thread inserts or the appropriate assembly tools in your stock. With one click, you get all the parts you need in a handy cassette, carefully put together for you by our experienced experts.
A thread repair kit contains the following as standard: a core drill bit, a screw tap, the installation tool and a tang break tool. In addition, you will receive repair thread inserts, which you can of course purchase at any time if required. Our BaerCoil® thread repair kits are sorted by thread standard and outer diameter. If you have a larger need and want to repair or reinforce threads with different outside diameters, then you should take a look at our thread repair workshop kits.
And this is how the thread repair works with the BaerCoil® thread repair kit
In a BaerCoil® thread repair kit, all the necessary assembly tools for the thread repair are included, so you can start right away. Start with the twist drill bit. With this you first drill out the damaged thread. An exception is the repair of a spark plug thread, where drilling and cutting are done in one operation. If necessary, countersink the core hole with a taper countersink after drilling.
In the next step, use the screw tap from your thread repair kit to cut the thread in the prepared hole. This works best if you use a little lubricant. Then the thread insert can be installed. This can be done by hand or with a machine. When you buy your thread repair kit, make sure you know which installation tool is included with the cassette. You can recognise thread repair kits with machine installation tools by the designation "Pro" in the product title.
When installing by hand, you continue with the manual installation tool. Place the thread insert on the tool so that the tang is in the middle of the groove. With light pressure, screw the tool into the thread until the insert is just below the surface. Be careful not to turn against the direction of travel, otherwise the tang could break off.
With the machine installation tool, you must first set the counter nuts to the correct installation depth. Then screw the insert onto the tool and screw it into the mounting thread with the machine or cordless screwdriver until the nut touches down. If you now turn the machine to the left, the installation tool will turn out and the repair thread insert will remain in the thread.
With both methods, the last step is to break the tang. For this purpose, you will find a suitable tang break tool in your thread repair kit. Insert it into the thread until it rests on the tang. Now hit the back of the tool once with a hammer and the tang will come loose. If there is enough space, you can then remove the tang with a pair of needle-nose pliers.
How to find the right BaerCoil® thread repair kit for your needs
We have carefully put together our BaerCoil® thread repair kits for different purposes. Basically, the thread repair kits are subdivided according to thread standard. In addition to the metric regular and fine thread, you will find numerous international standards such as the British coarse and fine thread or the Unified National Thread. If you are looking for thread repair kits for spark plug and oil drain threads, you should take a look at the sub-category "automotive special". And for special cases such as working on a Harley Davidson, we carry special thread repair kits in the "Special Sizes" category.
In Europe, the most common thread is the metric ISO thread, so there are various versions of our thread repair kit in this category. Under the designation "Pro" you will find thread repair kits with machine installation tool, which are designed for use in the machine or with the cordless screwdriver. Repair thread sets "Mix" include thread inserts in various lengths. And our thread repair kits for blind holes come with taper countersinks in addition to the installation tools described above.
