Cutting, identifying, and repairing threads – these are processes that not only DIYers often shy away from because they are considered very complex. And let’s be honest, that assessment is not wrong. Thread machining involves a lot of theory and with all its complex geometries, a thread can quickly show its diva-like tendencies.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were a video that explained everything DIYers and professionals need to know about threads in a compact and easy way? We thought the same and therefore we can confidently drop the conditional right here. Because this is exactly the video we have for you today. In the Expert Talk with Andre Brockschmidt from Bauforum24, you get two hours full of thread knowledge, answers to all common questions, and many tips and tricks so that thread machining is no longer a mystery to you. You can find the video on our BAER community platform. Click right in!

In the Expert Talk you will learn what really matters when cutting threads

In the Expert Talk from Bauforum24, we first dive into the theory. Explained simply and clearly, you will learn everything about different thread types, thread terminology, and the tools required for thread cutting.

Afterwards, we move on to practice. We show how to cut external and internal threads by hand and with machine assistance. Step by step, we demonstrate the use of BAER threading tools and provide a wealth of tips and tricks to avoid mistakes and achieve optimal results.

We also talk in detail about options for thread repair. If you have always wanted to know how to restore a stripped thread with minimal effort and make components functional again, then you should definitely watch.

And finally, we take a look at the BAER product range beyond taps and dies and answer the classic question of which twist drills are best suited for universal use.

Our Top 5 Tips for Thread Cutting

  • Core hole dimensions matter: Only with the correct pre-drilling diameter will the thread turn out properly
  • Don’t forget lubrication: Cutting paste not only eases the work but also protects the tap from wear
  • Keep everything aligned: Especially when cutting threads by hand, make sure the tool is held exactly perpendicular to the workpiece
  • Pitch differences: For imperial threads, pitch is specified in threads per inch and not in millimeters like metric threads
  • Thread repair made easy: With thread inserts, you can restore damaged threads instead of discarding components

All tips and tricks can be found in the Bauforum24 Expert Talk on community.gewindebohrer.de
