Single-Cut Tap
Single-cut taps are specialist taps that produce an internal thread in a single pass. Unlike the classic hand tap set consisting of taper, plug and bottoming tap, the single-cut tap combines all cutting stages in one tool.
It features helical flutes (usually right-hand helix) that effectively remove chips. This makes it particularly suitable for machine use, but it can also be used by hand. Typical applications are through holes and blind holes in easily machinable materials such as steel, aluminium or cast iron.
Advantages of the single-cut tap:
- High precision and time savings: The thread is produced in a single pass.
- Universal application: Suitable for hand and machine use.
- Clean chip removal: Chips are efficiently evacuated thanks to the special flute geometry.
Single-cut taps are often manufactured in Form B or D, depending on whether they are designed for through or blind holes. They are usually made from HSS or HSSE, providing a long tool life and high cutting performance.
