HSSE
HSSE stands for a high-performance high-speed steel (High Speed Steel) alloyed with cobalt – i.e. HSS with an additional cobalt content.
Special features:
- Higher hot hardness and better cutting performance at higher temperatures than standard HSS.
- Slightly more sensitive to mechanical stress than pure tough steel – but significantly more durable in correct applications.
Practical example:
An HSSE tap is used when cutting stainless steel – where high temperatures and friction occur, a standard HSS drill wears out faster.
