Thread Former
A thread former (also: thread forming tool) forms a thread by plastic deformation rather than cutting.
Characteristics:
- Displaces the material – no chip removal takes place.
- Result: smooth surfaces and fewer micro-cracks.
Practical example:
For external threads on bolts where high surface quality and strength are important, a thread former can offer advantages over a cut thread.
