Thread Profile
The thread profile describes the characteristic shape of a thread in longitudinal cross-section.
There are different thread profiles, selected according to the application:
- V-thread – sharply defined thread crests
- Round thread – rounded thread crests and roots, resistant to stress
- Trapezoidal thread – trapezoidal profile, suitable for high forces and motion threads
In most cases the thread profile of external and internal threads is identical.
However, there are also applications where different thread types are used externally and internally – pipe connections are a typical example.
