Through Hole
A through hole is a completely drilled hole in a workpiece that passes from one side to the other.
Think of it like a tunnel: there is an entry and an exit, so a thread or bolt can be passed through.
When tapping threads, this means:
- The tool (e.g. a tap) is guided into the material from one side.
- The chips produced during cutting can fall out through the hole from the back.
- This generally makes machining easier and faster than with blind holes.
Practical example:
When bolting together a metal profile or plate, you drill a through hole. The screw can then be inserted and secured with a nut on the other side.
